If you've been following me on social media for awhile, I'm sure you've noticed that we're a big outdoors family. If we're home, nine times out of ten we are outside playing or riding dirt bikes. This spot in our yard has been vacant for a few months after removing our old play set that was so graciously handed down to us by my father in law. It was well loved for four years here (ten years at his house), but was quickly becoming a safety issue. The wood was rotting and on it's last leg. The floorboards could no longer hold a substantial amount of weight, and with four kids that became problematic.

We have an extreme love for building and do it yourself projects, so we knew we wanted to tackle this diy play set ourselves. Sure there are plenty of play/swing sets on the market, but what we really wanted on top of building it ourselves, was for it to match the overall aesthetic of our home. There are plans in the works for the exterior of our home, and this modern twist on a play set fits the puzzle perfectly.

Scot always makes fun of me, because when we purchased our home, I was the only one to look at it. It was a complete blind buy on his part because he was at work! I still laugh about that to this day, because he completely and fully trusted my judgement, and boy have we put blood sweat and tears into this beautiful place we call home. One of my favorite things at first glance was this huge blooming tree to the left of the swing set. It's one of the first things you see when you pull into our home, and it's just magical.

Also because I don't always have time to photograph the step by step process, here's a fun video time lapse of what a normal building day looks like.

I'm bummed that I didn't get to time lapse the side walls on the play set, but some form of technology is always dead around here. For now here's an up close photo of the sides completed.
