Bedroom transformation removing a reach in closet

We are making progress on our daughter's bedroom transformation removing a reach in closet. So far we have removed all of the old trim, painted the walls/ceiling with our paint sprayer, installed a new ceiling fan, and are now moving onto her bed. I'm an instant gratification kind of person, so naturally I've been daydreaming about wall decor and how we're going to minimally decorate the space.

There's a few items I have that I'm going to be switching out for this bedroom transformation. For instance, I have this frame and this print that I want to incorporate in her room, however I'd like to change out the print to something a little bit more feminine. I LOVE this Etsy shop so much, and the creator behind the shop is so kind and talented. He even custom color matched the print below for me so that it would match our home!

I created the modern and minimal rainbow wall hanging a couple weeks ago using leftover scrap wood. It turned out so cute, and our daughter is so excited to hang it in her new room. Below are the sources for the rest of the items.

Demo:

For reference, here's how the closet looked before we began demo. A couple issues we were running into were the following:

  1. Window placement
  2. Bed placement
  3. Off centered walls

To begin, I removed the dresser from the closet and framed photos.

Then I grabbed my drill and removed my DIY photo ledge frame from the reach in closet.

Next we began removing the drywall on the outside of the reach in closet. This would expose the 2x4 framing underneath.

You'll want to make sure you have a sharp utility knife to make sure you can properly and cleanly cut through your drywall. Scot is using this knife for this project. We weren't removing the wall to the right of the reach in closet, so we wanted to make sure the drywall work was as clean as possible.

We've tested our drywall for asbestos before, and it was negative, however we were still extremely cautious when removing this drywall. We made sure to have as little dust as possible during demo. Then we immediately disposed of it.

Here's what the reach in closet looked like once the drywall was removed on the right side. Notice the double header in the middle. This is not a load bearing wall, just a really well built home. Since this wall wasn't load bearing, we removed the double header and saved the wood for a future project.

Here's a time lapse of Scot and I removing the double header and remaining 2x4's.

Here's what the closet looked like once we removed all of the framing and double header. The closet is so much larger.
