Instead of throwing them out, we did what we're good at, we recycled them and passed them down to their sister. Not only does she have her own room, but she has much smaller clothes. We currently have all of our 1963 bi fold doors removed from the closet for several reasons. They we're starting to come off the tracks, and honestly are just too dated for the current design of our home. The closets will most likely be tackled after the basement renovation takes off.Read More
When we ultimately decided to do a room switch in our open floor plan home, we knew the tv over the mantle in the new dining room was out of place. It's new home in the now family room, hangs between our front windows. There wasn't any wiring available for the TV, so we had to rewired to make it happen. We tied into the old location through the attic. Here are a few photos of our process. *We have been doing electrical work for several years now, we do not recommend you rewire anything in your home if you don't feel comfortable. Always hire out electrical work if you're not 100% confident!Read More
I've said it in several posts, and I'll say it again. Photos are my absolute favorite decor to have in our home. Photographs are decor with a purpose and hold so much sentimental value. They're not mass produced, you can't buy them at a big box store, and they surround you and your family with memories you've celebrated together over the years.Read More
If you're a new reader then you probably don't know that I completely eliminated thrifting from my lifestyle with the mindset of less is more. Also because random finds hold no emotional connection, therefore it's all a waste and unnecessary. You can read more about our journey to minimalism in this post.Read More
Gallery walls are my favorite home decor in our home. I know recently within the last few years gallery walls have been all the craze. I however do not treat gallery walls as a "trend" per say. Hanging beautiful artwork, and most importantly photos of your children are timeless and never "trending". I also believe there's a specific way gallery walls should be approached. I've come across several that include mass produced art and random items. These types of gallery walls can be wonderful, IF the items are meaningful. I personally don't want to display store bought items; insert custom floral prints here.Read More
We've slowly been adding pieces to our room to bring it all together. I've been wanting a light next to my side of the bed in hopes of eventually having enough time to read at night. My favorite part about do it yourself projects is using what you already have on hand. We just finished a floating nightstand that we upcycled from on hand materials, and we have a small pile of excess wood from our diy modern wood play set. That's where these scrap pieces came from.
This is hands down one of the easiest projects to date. All it took was a handful of cuts. You can make this entire project out of one 2x2! Once you make your cuts (you can personalize this diy minimal wall light stand to your liking), all you need to do is attach your pieces with screws. Easy peasy! Here's what it looks like assembled and hung.Read More
We have smaller bedrooms. In comparison to most master bedrooms, ours is for sure on the modest scale. It's also one of my favorite, not Scot's, things about our home. I love the challenge of utilizing the space you have in the best and most practical ways. It makes you think outside of the box design wise.Read More
